Rohit Sharma's captaincy has faced relentless criticism from all corners after India's 2023 WTC final defeat. Many have called out Rohit's choice to bowl first after the toss, his poor tactical planning, and the decision to drop Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of the India's greatest Test cricketers in history and is widely regarded among the best cricketing minds out there. Making him captain could be a move similar to making Kumble captain and ensure someone young can be groomed under him.

In an ideal world, this would been a straightforward decision for BCCI. Rishabh Pant is India's best Test player but his accident has made it a complicated process. However, there is no reason why India should not hand him the job when he is fit and firing again.

Jasprit Bumrah captained India in the one-off Test against England last year. He is unarguably India's biggest asset and has shown a knack for captaincy. However, his injury issues make it a tough choice but he remains a strong contender.

Ajinkya Rahane made a dream comeback after a 18-month hiatus in the WTC final and has made himself undroppable. Rahane has shown his captaincy skill in the 2021 BGT win and could be someone that could lead the team in this WTC cycle while India find a younger captain.

Shubman Gill is definitely the future of Indian cricket and someone destined to be a captain at some point. While giving him the captaincy at this point will be an outside the box choice, this could allow India to usher in a new era with a team full of young blood.
