GENTLE ERUPTION:

Lava poured from the crater of Mount Mayon -- Philippines’ most active volcano.

ALARM SOUNDED:

​Tens of thousands of villagers were asked to be prepared to flee if the eruption turns into a life-threatening explosion.

​Residents within a 6-kilometre radius of Mayon Volcano’s crater were forced out of their homes in mandatory evacuations.

INCREASED VOLCANIC ACTIVITY:

With the volcano beginning to expel lava, bright red-orange streaks were seen gushing down Mayon’s slope.

Mount Mayon's peak is often shrouded by the wisps of passing clouds. Mayon is one of 24 active volcanoes in the Philippines.

A BRIEF MAYON HISTORY:

​Lava was continuing to flow down its slopes but could not easily be seen by people under the bright sun. It last erupted violently in 2018.

In 1814, Mayon’s eruption buried entire villages and reportedly left more than 1,000 people dead.
