Low Blood Pressure

People who have low blood pressure should not donate blood. Donating blood could deteriorate your health and in severe cases, this could also turn out to be fatal.

High Blood Pressure

People suffering from high blood pressure are advised not to donate blood as doing so can have a bad impact on their health.

Pregnant and Breastfeeding

Anyone who is pregnant should not donate blood as this could severely impact the baby as well as the pregnant individual. Also, anyone who is breastfeeding should refrain from donating blood.

Blood Borne Diseases

People suffering from blood-borne diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Malaria and HIV among others should refrain from donating blood. The blood could eventually infect a healthy individual.

Tuberculosis

If you’re suffering from tuberculosis, you should refrain from donating blood. However, people who have a positive skin or blood test but no active tuberculosis and are not taking any antibiotics can donate blood.

Medications

People who are on antibiotics, insulin, blood thinners, aspirin and hepatitis B immune globulin should refrain from donating blood.

Surgery

Anyone who has had a major surgery in the past six months shouldn’t donate blood. If you had a dental surgery, you can donate blood, however, if you had a heart surgery, you shouldn’t donate blood. The nature of your surgery decides if you can donate blood or not.
