Lahore: Heavy rains and thunderstorms left behind a trail of deaths and destruction in Pakistan, which is also bracing for very Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy. As many as 28 people were killed and more than 140 injured as several parts of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab on Saturday witnessed severe weather conditions.
Meanwhile, IMD said, "Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS), Biparjoy lay centred near lat 17.4N and long 67.3E, about 600 km WSW of Mumbai, 530 km S-SW of Porbandar & 830 km S of Karachi. To intensify further and likely to reach near Pakistan & adjoining Saurashtra & Kutch coast around afternoon of 15th June as VSCS."

In Banu, 15 people lost their lives while 100 others were injured and 68 houses were partially damaged. Five people were killed and 42 others were wounded in the Lakki Marwat district. Four people died in Karak and one person was injured.
In Dera Ismail Khan, a child died due to the rains, two people were injured and one house was partially damaged.
Roof collapses due to heavy rain took place at many places in Lakki Marwat Bannu and other parts and relief activities were carried out to rescue affected people. The injured persons were shifted to hospital for treatment.

High Alert In Hospitals

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah said that a high alert had been issued in the hospitals of the affected districts. The said that the interim government was in contact with the authorities of the affected regions, he added.
Several regions of Punjab, including Sargodha, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and other districts also witnessed incessant rains. In Chan village of the Khushab district, three girls lost their lives after a wall of their house collapsed due to torrential rains.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held telephonic conversation with Deputy Speaker National Assembly Zahid Akram Durrani and expressed regret over the loss of life and property in rain-related incidents, as per the Geo News report. He instructed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to take urgent steps to deal with any untoward situation.
