6 Days Before Chargesheet Deadline | Wrestler's Molestation Charge 'Verified' | Newshour Agenda

Updated Jun 10, 2023 | 10:29 AM IST

In this episode of The Newshour Agenda, host Padmaja Joshi will discuss how A Commonwealth gold medalist, an international referee, a state-level coach, and one Olympian are said to have confirmed the claims of sexual harassment made against the head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) amid escalating protests and mounting pressure on the Centre to detain Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The chief of the Indian Wrestling Federation (WFI) stated he will reply to the allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh once the chargesheet is submitted by June 15 despite the father of a young wrestler retracting them days earlier. The minor wrestler's father claimed that he purposefully made a false police report alleging sexual harassment under the POCSO Act against the WFI chief because he was upset that his daughter had lost the championship match at the 2022 Under-17 Asian Championship trials, which would have prevented her from making the Indian team. Highly placed sources said that the victim's father "retracted" the accusations of sexual harassment made against the WFI chief, weakening the case under the POSCO Act. Since April, protestors have camped in Delhi and called for Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's arrest. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “I don't think Centre will either side with the wrestlers or Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh as it was time & again said that it trusts the law,” stated Raman Malik, BJP.
