'Ask Dhoni...': Rahul Dravid's India Coaching Journey Nears Conclusion, Triggers Scrutiny After WTC Final Loss
Rahul Dravid's tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team is coming to an end after the October-November ODI World Cup. Dravid's future has come under scrutiny after India lost the WTC final against Australia, and social media users are suggesting to replace him with MS Dhoni or Justin Langer. Although India won some matches under Dravid's coaching, they lost against South Africa and the one-off Test vs England. To add to that, India lost to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Both Dravid and Rohit Sharma would like to win the ODI World Cup to end India's trophy drought.

Rahul Dravid 's tenure as the head coach of the national team will come to an end after the ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in India in the month of October-November. Dravid took over the mantle from Ravi Shastri in November 2021 and post his appointment as the head coach of the team, India have not had the desired result so far in his tenure. With the Rohit Sharma-led side losing against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Dravid's future as the coach has come under heavy scrutiny on social media with netizens calling to remove the former India captain and replace him with MS Dhoni or Justin Langer.
" Rohit Sharma & coach both responsible for the defeat Rahul Dravid not aggressive coach as like Ravi shashri he should replace & ask Dhoni to coach Indian team ahead of Fifty over World Cup," tweeted a user while another one wrote, "Why Indian team is not winning, it is because of the coach ... Sack Rahul Dravid and replace with Justin Langer and see the result..."
Dravid's coaching tenure under scrutiny.
After taking over as the head coach of India, Dravid's first assignment was against New Zealand where India went on to win 1-0 under Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane - both captaining in alternate matches. Following the series against New Zealand, India toured South Africa and lost the series 2-1 after taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
India then travelled to England to play the one-off Test match that was postponed due to Covid in the previous year. However, India once again squandered a 2-1 lead in the series by losing the one-off Test in Birmingham as the series ended 2-2.
The following Test series against Bangladesh and Australia saw India win 2-0 and 2-1 respectively which helped them to make it to the WTC final 2023 . India succumbed to a 209-run loss against Australia in the just-concluded WTC final at the Kennington Oval.
The WTC final is the second ICC event that India failed to win after losing to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 under Dravid's tenure. With the ODI World Cup set to be held later in the year, both Dravid and Rohit would like to make amends by winning the coveted ICC trophy and end India's trophy drought.
In terms of Dravid's tenure as the coach, it is still not clear whether he will seek an extension or whether BCCI will have to look for a new coach irrespective of the result in the ODI World Cup 2023 .
