Ace Indian shuttlers are set to take part in the Indonesia Open 2023, which is the third Badminton World Federation's (BWF) Super 1000 event of the season after the Malaysia Open and England Open. The six-day tournament kicked off in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 13 and will end on Sunday, June 18. PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal will headline the Indian contingent as all top badminton stars of the country will participate in the event.
Sindhu, who has been having a rough time on the court in the last few months having suffered first-round exits in Singapore Open and Thailand Open, will be eager to make a few wrongs right. Sindhu will face Indonesian World No. 9 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung against whom she lost in Madrid Spain Masters and then in the Malaysia Masters semis. On the other hand, HS Prannoy, who is coming off winning the Malaysia Masters last month, will be up against Japan’s world No. 11 Kenta Nishimoto in the first round.
The last time an Indian won in the Indonesian Open was back in 2017 by Kidambi Srikanth, who will play Lu Guang Zu in his first round match while Saina Nehwal, three-time winner (2009, 2010, 2011) will be up against World No. Wang Zhi Yi.
