In today's episode of India Upfront, host Rahul Shivshankr will be discussing quota injustice in West Bengal. The National Commission for Backward Classes levelled severe charges of appeasement against Mamata Banerjee's government in Bengal. The NCBC chief has pointed out certain discrepancies, especially when it comes to OBC status under the state list in Bengal, and said that of the 179 OBC groups in the state list, 118 belong to the Muslim community. The NCBC chief has concluded that the entire exercise of granting OBC status was not done in a responsible manner. The national commission for backward classes team made an official visit to Bengal in February to conduct a probe into the matter. We are joined by a few panellists. "Muslims form 27% of West Bengal's population, but 66% of OBC groups in the state are Muslims. This is appeasement at its worst," said Anand Ranganathan.
