India has criticized Canada for permitting a float in a parade that depicted the 1984 killing of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards. This float was seen as a promotion of violence by Sikh separatists and India has criticized Canada for this. The tableau in the march was discussed by India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar with reporters in New Delhi. The incident at a Sikh activist procession in the Canadian city of Brampton was also denounced by the high commissioner of Canada in India.
