Chennai: The city is likely to witness moderate rain with lightning and thunderstorms until June 14, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). Besides Chennai, other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are also expected to witness moderate rainfall until June 15.
However, certain areas in Chennai recently faced high temperatures, with Nungambakkam reaching a scorching 40 degrees Celsius.
Recent reports indicate that several areas in Chennai, including Egmore, Tiruvottiyur, Madhavaram, Perambur, Broadway, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Ambattur, and T Nagar, witnessed moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning on Sunday, June 11.

In contrast, interior parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to endure a heatwave, with soaring temperatures creating hot and humid conditions. Reports indicate that the average temperature in Tamil Nadu will rise by 2 to 4 degrees, reaching as high as 39 to 40 degrees Celsius.
The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Cuddalore's Parangipettai district at 40.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Nungambakkam (40.2 degrees Celsius) and Madurai (40 degrees Celsius).
