India-China relationship suffered another blow as Beijing instructed the last Indian journalist to leave by the end of this month.

New Delhi: The India-China relationship suffered another blow after Beijing asked the last Indian reporter left in the country to leave by the end of this month, reported Bloomberg. The Chinese authorities have instructed the Press Trust of India reporter to leave the country this month, according to a person familiar with the matter. This will mark the end of Indian journalists in China whereas New Delhi claimed that Chinese reporters are not facing any difficulty in India as they are free to operate here.
It is noteworthy here that Indian media outlets had four reporters based in China earlier this year. The reports have been leaving the country as a Hindustan Times reporter vacated office last weekend whereas two journalists from public broadcaster Prasar Bharati and The Hindu newspaper were denied visa renewals in China in April. Beijing has not offered any comment on the matter as yet.
The Indian authorities have also taken note of the situation as they have acknowledged the fact that Indian reporters have been asked to leave China whereas Chinese reporters had been operating in the country without any difficulty. Both countries were in touch over the issue, it added.
"All foreign journalists, including Chinese journalists, have been pursuing journalistic activities in India without any limitations or difficulties in reporting or doing media coverage," Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said to Reuters.
India-China ties have been downward spiralling since a deadly brawl that took place in 2020. China has kept that issue separate and wants to continue with the bilateral trade but India believes no relationship cannot go back to normal until the border disputes are addressed.
