Cong Begins 'Purge' In Karnataka | Chapter On RSS Founder Hedgewar To Be Omitted | India Upfront

In this episode of India Upfront, host Rahul Shivshankar will discuss how a contentious political dispute between the ruling party and the opposition, led by the BJP, has been sparked by the rewriting of school textbooks that the Karnataka government, led by the Congress, has suggested. The Karnataka government plans to remove a chapter honouring Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS's founder, as part of this modification. A chapter about Dr. Hedgewar has reportedly been removed from the Class 10 Kannada textbook by the current Congress-led Karnataka administration. During the previous BJP government's term in office, this chapter was included to the state curriculum. This choice was apparently made at a Bengaluru discussion on educational reforms between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa. The BJP has criticised the Congress government's choice to update the curriculum with the aim of erasing the purported influence of the Sangh. In its electoral platform, the Congress party pledged to undo the changes the previous BJP administration had made to the school textbooks. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “There should be no censorship. I am of the belief that students should be taught about RSS and its founders... Students should be taught how they backstabbed Gandhiji. The organization was banned by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,” stated Tehseen Poonawalla, Political Analyst.
