DU Executive Council Approves Introduction 5 Year LLB programme, PhD Admissions via CUET and More

Delhi University, DU’s executive council has approved the introduction of a five year LLB programme in the university. In addition, the council also passed a proposal which suggested that PhD Admissions should take place via the Common University Entrance Test, CUET Exam.
DU Executive Council met on Friday, June 9, 2023 where it passed a list of proposals put forth by the university.

Delhi University's LLB Programme

Under DU, two LLB programmes will be implemented - BA LLB and BBA LLB. Under these five-year courses, only 120 students will be enrolled.
As per officials, under the BA LLB Programme, three disciplines of arts such as political science, sociology and economics will be offered along with law courses. For the BBA LLB, commerce, management and economics related disciplines will be offered by the university.
Admission into these courses is expected to be done via the Common Law Admission Test, CLAT Exam. Details on the admission process will be shared in due course of time.

Other Recommendations made by DU' Executive Council

PhD Admissions can take place based on the CUET Exam. As of now, only the proposal has been approved for this, the actual working will begin once NTA is also informed. NTA is expected to conduct this test as it is the organising body for CUET UG and PG exams.
Centre for Independence and Partition Studies, Centre for Hindu Studies and Centre for Tribal Studies to be set up.
For the Sports and ECA category admissions, EC has decided that out of a total of 5 percent of supernumerary seats, 1 percent will be reserved for each of the categories. The remaining seat distribution will be decided by the respective colleges.
Integrated Teacher Education Programme, ITEP was passed by the EC. This will be a four-year programme. ITEP will have no impact on the already existing teacher education programmes. Apart from this, teaching and non-teaching staff will also be able to directly apply for interviews and will also be allowed to attend classes and sit for exams without impacting the duties assigned during office hours.
DU Admissions 2023 will take place once the CUET Result is declared for the UG Exam. Based on reports, CUET UG Result is expected in the month of July. Stay tuned for the latest updates!
