KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Quinton de Kock is not in LSG's playing XI for the MI clash
  • Quinton has played just four games this season
  • Quinton won two IPL titles with MI
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have taken a bold decision and left out Quinton de Kock from their playing XI for their big clash against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday (May 24). QDK is not playing the eliminator of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) in a game that will either see LSG advance to the second qualifier or be knocked out of the competition.
There was no mention of any injury to Quinton by skipper Krunal Pandya at the toss. This means that it is a tactical move to leave him out. Kyle Mayers is in the impact subs and looks likely to make a comeback when LSG walks out to bat. Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Quinton did not play the first 10 games of the season, with Mayers being preferred. However, they changed their combination after KL Rahul's injury. The South African opener made 143 runs in the four matches he played this season.
Apart from that, LSG have not made any major changes to their playing XI since their victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday (May 20) at the Eden Gardens. On the other hand, there is one change in MI's playing XI, with Hrithik Shooken taking Kumar Kartikeya's place. Nehal Wadhera is on the impact players list despite Mumbai batting first. It remains to be seen if he comes on later or if MI opts for another bowler.
MI lost both openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the powerplay, with Naveen-ul-Haq and Yash Thakur getting the wickets.
