Hyderabad: The civic body in Hyderabad and the state government in Telangana have been taking up various infra projects to decongest choke points in the city. In a latest development in the same direction, the authorities will be constructing a flyover to ease the Gachibowli and the Outer Ring Road areas.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is constricting a six-lane bidirectional flyover between Gachibowli and Kondapur.
Build at an estimated cost of Rs 178 crore, this 1.2 km-long flyover with 24 metres in width is expected to reduce traffic load at Gachibowli Junction and better connectivity between Hitec City and Financial District. The flyover is coming up towards Outer Ring Road (ORR) at the second level crossing of Gachibowli junction.
Commuters take hours to navigate the Gachibowli Junction, which has around 10000 passenger car units (PCU) per hour. As per the official estimation, the number cap go up to nearly 18000 PCU by 2036.
The work on the ground for the flyover began in March officials hope to complete it before March next year. The project is being carried out under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), which is aimed to revolutionise the transport infrastructure in the city.
Two other flyovers - Shilpa Layout and Kothaguda - are in operation at present, which helped significantly reduce the traffic load in Gachibowli and ORR.
Meanwhile, the construction of the city's second-longest flyover from Zoo Park to Aramghar is running behind schedule and is expected to take another year to be completed.
