India will face the Australian team in the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023 at the Oval Stadium in London. The summit clash will start on Wednesday (June 7), and for the next five days, the two star-studded sides will fight against each other by giving their all to be crowned the second champions of the ICC World Test Championship. Kane Williamson’s New Zealand won the inaugural edition of the WTC in 2021 when they got the better of India by 8 wickets in the summit clash, and both Australia and India would like to give their all to join the elite list.
Australia finished at the top of the WTC 2021–23 points table, and India ended up in second position after getting the better of the Baggy Greens by a margin of 2-1 in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The winner of the final match between India and Australia, apart from the Test mace, will also earn a huge amount of money. According to the ICC release, the winner of the WTC 2023 final will get a whopping Rs 13.23 crore in prize money, while the runner-up will earn Rs 6.61 crore.
"The winners of the ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final will take home a whopping prize of USD 1.6 million (INR 13.23 crore), while the runners-up will pocket USD 800,000 (INR 6.61 crore)," the ICC said in an official statement.
A total purse of $3.8 million will be shared between the nine teams that participated in the WTC 2021-23. There is no change in the tournament prize money, which remains the same as that for the inaugural edition of the championship (2019–21), with a total purse of $3.8 million.
South Africa earned $450,000 by finishing third in the WTC 2021–23 standings. England, who ended up fourth on the table, earned a reward of $350,000. Sri Lanka, who were in the running for a place in the final before their series defeat in New Zealand, dropped down to the fifth spot. Their prize money share is $200,000. Sixth-placed New Zealand, seventh-placed Pakistan, eighth-placed West Indies, and ninth-placed Bangladesh were given $100,000 each.
