The 13th edition of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, which is set to take place in India later this year, is less than four months away. The 2023 ODI World Cup will be entirely hosted by India for the first time in history after they were joint hosts on the last three occasions (in 1987, 1996, and 2011). In the 10-team megaevent that is scheduled to start on October 5 with a match between last edition's losing finalists New Zealand and defending champions England, according to various reports, India would like to end the ICC title drought of 10 years and become only the second team after Australia to win at least three ODI World Cup titles.
Australia is the most successful team in ODI World Cup history with five titles to their name, and India is in joint-second place with the West Indies, who won the first two editions of the tournament. The official schedule of this year’s 50-over World Cup is yet to be announced by the ICC, but according to a report published in ESPNCricinfo on Sunday (June 11), the tournament will start on October 5 in the world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and the final will also take place at the same venue on November 19.
In addition to that, the 1.32 lakh-capacity stadium is set to host the blockbuster, a high-profile match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan on October 15. The Men in Blue will open their campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The report further states that India is scheduled to play its league matches across nine venues. India’s second match will be against Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi, after which they will travel to Ahmedabad for the Pakistan game. In the fourth match, India will face Bangladesh in Pune on October 19, and it will be followed by matches against New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamsala, vs England on October 29 in Lucknow, vs a qualifying team in Mumbai on November 2, vs South Africa in Kolkata on November 5, vs another qualifying team on November 11 in Bengaluru.

Pakistan is scheduled to play across five venues during the league phase. Apart from the India match in Ahmedabad, Pakistan are slotted to meet the two teams progressing from the qualifier on October 6 and 12 in Hyderabad, and then Australia in Bengaluru (October 20), Afghanistan (October 23), and South Africa (October 27) in Chennai, Bangladesh in Kolkata (October 31), New Zealand in Bengaluru (November 5, day match), and England in Kolkata (November 12), which in the proposed schedule is the final match of the league phase.
In other big matches, Australia will face New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 29, England in Ahmedabad on November 4, and New Zealand vs South Africa will take place in Pune on November 1.
