  • MI and GT are hoping to book a place in the final
The all-important 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium faces a massive rain threat just minutes before the scheduled start of play. A heavy downpour has hit the city, putting the game under major doubt as both teams try to enter the final.
While the weather forecast had not predicted rain despite a heavy cloud presence, locals have reported a heavy downpour in the city just minutes before the toss was expected to take place. With the radar showing that the rain will soon clear, it is expected that a shortened game could take place.

What is the cut-off time for the match to start and how many overs are needed?
Due to the game being a playoff clash with so much at stake, the playing conditions have given the match more time than league games to finish. Rather than the regular one hour, a full 20-over game will take place if the match starts by 9:40 PM. A five-over match can start as late as 11:56 PM at the latest, which is the cut-off time for the match to start.
Both teams need to play a minimum of five overs for a result. If a five-over game is not possible, a super-over will decide the result. A super over can start at the latest at 12:50 AM.

What happens if no match is possible?
If no play is possible and even a super over is not possible, leading to a washout, defending champions GT will qualify for the final. This is because they finished higher on the league table. GT finished first with 20 points, while MI finished fourth with 16 points. Unlike the final, there is no reserve day in place for the three playoff games.
