National Highway-53 is an important route connecting Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. It serves as a link to various districts in Maharashtra, including Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, and Bhandara. The highway also offers good connectivity to the Raipur-Nagpur-Surat corridor, also known as the East-West corridor.
The Shelad to Nandura project, part of the quadrangle project of Sadar Shelad-Nandura division, spans a total length of 45 km. It includes the construction of 14 km of greenfield bypasses, four major bridges, 16 minor bridges, 63 culverts, one road-over-bridge, eight vehicle underpasses, two pedestrian underpasses, and 12 bus shelters.
This project is expected to bring significant benefits to the renowned silver market in Khamgaon, a subdivision of Buldhana district. It will help alleviate traffic congestion in Khamgaon city and ensure the safety of road users with the inclusion of vehicle underpasses and a road-over-bridge.
The project will facilitate easier access to Shegaon, Lonar, and other religiously and geographically significant places. It aims to promote the development of tourism, healthcare, education, and employment generation in the region.
As part of the central government's Amrit Sarovar scheme, which focuses on opening ponds under highway projects, a Jalkumbhachi has been constructed. This initiative has addressed the water drainage issue in hot and dry areas like Khamgaon.
Furthermore, the announcement was made for the Malkapur-Buldhana-Chikhli road project with a budget of Rs 1,200 crore, as well as a 22 km road in Balapur-Shegaon costing Rs 350 crore. Additionally, approval was granted for road works worth Rs 25 crore from Chikhali to Thakarkhed and other roads.
