Randy 'R Dub' Williams has appointed himself 'Sultan' of the 11-acre barren territory in the Golden State.
The DJ, who has reportedly visited every UN-designated country in the world, has named his micronation 'Slowjamastan' which has its own rules.
Although Slowjamastan passport has reportedly been stamped by 16 countries, the micronation has not yet been recognised by the United States. Randy claims that over 5,000 people have already signed-up to become citizens of his 'nation'.
"I’ve seen some incredible places that many people do not get the chance to travel to … What’s next for me, it’s to make a country of my own," Randy told Fox News.
Besides the ban on wearing Crocs, Slowjamastan has many other rules bizarre for residents.
For example, eating string cheese by biting it instead of pulling it apart is banned and playing 'mumble rap' music is also not acceptable. Residents are also now allowed to drive on the left lane.
Interestingly, Slowjamastan isn't the only independent micronation in the world that has not been formally recognised by sovereign states. There are an estimated 70 other micronations around the world.
How did Randy come up with the idea for Slowjamastan? Well, he was inspired by a micronation in Nevada called 'Republic of Molossia'. The name of the country is a reference to Randy's time as a DJ on Magic 92.5 in South California.
After buying the 11-acre land in the California desert in 2021, Randy started his own currency (Duble), which happens to be a play on Russia's Ruble, installed several name boards, started an official website, and social media pages for Slowjamastan among many other things.
In an interview, Randy said the structure of the government is a dictatorship and occasionally a democracy.
"I am the great leader that makes the rules, although sometimes … we let the community chime in on issues that are important to the Slowjamastani," said Rany.
As of now, no residents live in Slowjamastan but Randy claims that thousands of citizens around the world are waiting in line. The place has no infrastructure but plans are in place to build solar facilities, an armadillo farm, and a Mongolian BBQ restaurant.
Randy added that people who want to travel to‘The United Territories of The Sovereign Nation of The People’s Republic of Slowjamastan’will need to procure a visa.
