Navi Mumbai: In a major relief for Navi Mumbai residents who have been facing continued water supply disruptions over the past week, the supply was finally restored from June 12. However, it is still irregular with disruptions during evening hours and residents have also complained about quality of the water supply being muddy.
The water supply shortage in the city was due to multiple repair works owing to technical problems in the supply system. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) had asked citizens to cooperate use the water available sparingly.
  • On June 2 and 3, shutdown was conducted by MIDC for repair work.
  • On June 7 a water shutdown was conducted at NMMC's Morbe Dam main channel and Bhokarpada Water Treatment Center to carry out necessary work related to pre-monsoon water supply.
  • On June 10, Morbe Dam Project of NMMC’s 2024 mm diameter water channel burst. The said repair work was immediately taken up and completed on a war footing by working round the clock.
As per the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, the necessary works have been done promptly through the civic body's water Supply Department and the entire water supply system has been restored.
Moreover, in other news, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has planned 24x7 water supply to the strategically important node of CBD-Belapur that houses several government departments and organisations along with corporate offices.
The civic body has invited bids for the project that is expected to cost Rs 118.36 crore. The plan will be financed through a grant from the Centre's Amrut Mission 2.0 plan.
