India were hit by a major blow in their hopes of chasing a total of 444 to win the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) title after the in-form Shubman Gill was dismissed on the last ball of the second session by Scott Boland after making a bright start.
Gill was batting on 18 of just 19 balls, having struck an opening partnership of 41 runs with skipper Rohit Sharma. Gill edged a delivery from Boland to the slip cordon, where Cameron Green pulled off a stunning catch. Green dived to his left to take an incredible one-handed catch.
The on-field umpire asked the TV umpire to take a look, and after looking at a few replays, the decision was given out. The outcome left many dissatisfied as it divided opinions among the cricket fraternity. Skipper Rohit Sharma was visibly furious and was seen arguing with the umpire. The Oval crowd booed the Australian team after the decision.
After the end of play on Day 4, Gill was quick to post his frustration on social media. The Indian opener made his disappointment with the decision clear on Twitter with a cryptic post, in which he posted a picture of the catch and a few emojis.

Talking about the game, India are 164/3 at stumps on Day 4, with Virat Kohli (44) and Ajinkya Rahane (20) on the crease. Rohit and Pujara lost their wickets in a soft manner after making good starts. India need 280 more runs with seven wickets in hand on the final day to seal a historic title and break their ICC Trophy drought.
