Cyclone Biporjoy: Depression Over Arabian Sea Likely To Intensify Into Cyclonic Storm During Next 12 Hours

Ahmedabad: A low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea has intensified into a depression and is likely to become a cyclonic storm by Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. The depression is currently located over the Arabian Sea, about 900 km southwest of Porbandar in Gujarat.
Biparjoy is likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Gujarat on Thursday morning.

The IMD has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gujarat from Wednesday to Friday. The coastal districts of Gujarat, including Porbandar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, and Devbhumi Dwarka, are likely to receive the heaviest rainfall.
The IMD has also warned of high winds and storm surges in the coastal areas of Gujarat. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
The cyclonic storm is likely to cause widespread damage to property and crops in Gujarat. The state government has deployed teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to the coastal areas to deal with any eventuality.
