Kurukshetra: Farmers from Haryana on Monday blocked the national highway to Delhi in protest over their demand for Minimum Support Price for sunflower seed. The protesting farmers gathered on the highway to hold Mahapanchayat in protest against the Haryana government's decision not to buy sunflower seeds at MSP.
Due to the farmers' protest in the Pipli village of Kurukshetra district, the traffic has been reportedly diverted on the Delhi-Chandigarh route for avoiding congestion. Notably, farm leaders from the neighbouring states of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh also gathered at the Pipli grain market to protest against the state government, reported NDTV.
Here is the video of farmers blocking the highway:

On Saturday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday digitally released Rs 29.13 crore as an interim payment to 8,528 sunflower farmers for the crop grown on 36,414 acres. Notably, the amount was released under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana (BBY).
The farmers were demanding a minimum support price of Rs 6,400 per quintal for their produce. Notably, earlier this year, the state government announced the inclusion of sunflower crops under the BBY scheme. Under this scheme, farmers will be paid a fixed amount if their produce is sold for less than MSP.
Earlier this month also, farmers blocked Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway-44 near Shahabad in Kurukshetra over the same issue. The police then used water cannons to disperse the protesting farmers.
