A 76-year-old woman, who was declared dead at a hospital in Ecuador, left mourners stunned after she began banging on the inside of her coffin.
Bella Montoya regained consciousness during the vigil of her own funeral which was reportedly held in the city of Babahoyo on Friday, according to reports.
According to a BBC report, Montoya gasped for breath after the casket was opened after almost five hours to change her clothes ahead of the funeral.
Footage shared on social media shows medics tending to Montoya after her family members realised she was alive.
As she was being removed from the casket and placed onto a stretcher, she was seen clearly breathing.
The paramedics were also seen observing her vital signs before transferring her to a medical facility.
The BBC report added that firefighters arrived at the funeral venue to lift Montoya out of her coffin. After that, she was taken to the same hospital where she had been declared dead.
"My mum started to move her left hand, to open her eyes, her mouth; she struggled to breathe," Montoya's son, Gilbert Balberan was quoted as saying by BBC.

The son said the funeral was organised just four hours after his mother was declared dead with a medical examiner even providing a death certificate that listed 'cardiorespiratory arrest' as the cause of death.
Balberán added that the cardiorespiratory arrest caused her to suffer catalepsy, a condition marked by rigidity of the body, slower breathing, and decreased sensitivity to pain.
“My mother is on oxygen. Her heart is stable. The doctor squeezed her hand, and she reacted. They tell me this is a good sign because it means she is reacting little by little,” Baleran told a news outlet
“Now, I only ask that my mother’s health improves. I want her alive and by my side,” he added.
Following a shocking incident, Ecuador's health ministry has set up a technical team to investigate why a death certificate was erroneously issued.
The ministry said in a statement that a doctor on duty had confirmed the 'death' as Montoya had not responded to resuscitation attempts after going into cardiorespiratory arrest.
A couple of years ago, a Kenyan man who was declared dead by doctors woke up in the morgue while workers were preparing to embalm and drain blood from his body.
The man, identified as 32-year-old Peter Kigen, regained consciousness started screaming inside the morgue when a staff sliced his leg open.
