Chennai: Tamil Nadu power minister V Senthil Balaji who was arrested today by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) underwent Coronary Angiogram at Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital in Chennai. The health bulletin released by the hospital also suggested the DMK leader needs to undergo bypass surgery at the earliest. The DMK leader was in tears while he was on his way to the hospital. High drama unfolded outside the hospital premises as his supporters, who were standing outside the hospital started chanting slogans against the probe agency.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin arrived at Omandurar government hospital to meet state minister Senthil Balaji. Accusing the ED officials of behaving in an "inhuman" manner, the chief minister said that despite Senthi Balaji's willingness to cooperate, he was subjected to questioning through the night.
In a statement this morning, he said that the people of the state were watching the developments and would give a fitting reply to the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "BJP leadership is enacting 'politics of intimidation'. BJP's bid to intimidate through backdoor tactics like ED raids won't work," news agency PTI quoted Stalin as saying.
Earlier, on Tuesday ED officials raided the premises of Balaji and took him in for questioning. Income Tax (IT) authorities also searched the properties of Mr Balaji's associates across the state. The ED is investigating corruption allegations against Balaji for jobs during his tenure as minister during the Jayalalithaa regime.
