Although Flavine was concerned about the child's safety, she was a little apprehensive to approach him due to his parents. Her suspicion began when she spotted the boy was the only one at his table-of-four to not receive food.
So, she found another way to communicate with the 11-year-old before alerting the authorities.
Just to be sure the boy was indeed scared of his parents, Flavine passed him a note on a parchment, that read: "Do you need help?"
Flavine said she noticed 'a big scratch between' the boy's eyebrows.
After passing the note, she positioned herself behind the parents and raised a sign which the young boy nodded to and made a hand sign with hands.
Soon after that, the waitress called the owner of the restaurant and later the police.

The parents were allegedly abusing the child at home, including tying him up with ratchet straps and hanging him upside down.
Recalling the incident at a press conference, Flavine said: "I could see he had a big scratch between his eyebrows. A couple of minutes later, I saw a bruise on the side of his eye. So I felt there was something really wrong."
Police even released the audio from the phone call by Flavine. She is heard saying: "I'm super concerned and I don't know what to do, can you give me some advice? What I can do? The boy is with bruises and he's not eating. The others are eating."
Along with the child in the restaurant, a 4-year-old child was removed from Wilson and Swann's home following their arrests.
