Kollam: How lucky do you think you are? Surely not as much as Kerala-native Reji. Here is why? The youngster got drunk -- so much so that he dozed off on a railway track. Later, he was awakened by the loco pilot of the train that was coming his way. Lucky for Reji, the train was slow-paced, enabling the loco pilot to stop it before he was run over.
The incident was reported at Ezhukon of Kollam district on Saturday. In an inebriated state, Reji fell asleep on the railway track. Around 6:00 PM the Kollam - Punalur Memu reached ESIC Hospital and spotted Reji sleeping on the tracks, Asianet said in a report. According to the loco pilot, he was resting his head on the line as he slept.
Since the train was coming at a slow pace, the loco pilot managed to stop it before removing Reji from the tracks along with a group of passengers, the Malayalam media said. The drunk man was soon handed over to the Ezhukone police.
A similar incident was reported in the region earlier this month as well when the loco pilot of a train claimed to have seen a dead body on the tracks. However, when the police inspected the area, it was learnt that it wasn't a dead body that the loco pilot spotted, but a man who had passed out on the tracks. He was booked by the Indian Railway, the news report added. No doubt both of them can thank their stars.
