Five Reasons To Wait For The Upcoming Harley-Davidson X 440
Are you planning to buy a mid-capacity motorcycle and your shortlisted models include the Royal Enfield Classic 350 or the Honda CB H'ness or even the Bajaj Dominar 400? Then you might want to hold on to that decision. For Harley-Davidson is about to launch its first entry-level, single-cylinder engine-powered motorcycle specifically for the Indian market on July 3. The new bike is called the X 440, and it will be the first-of-its-kind Harley that the Milwaukee manufacturer has built in collaboration with Hero Motocorp, the Indian 2W giant.
Completely New PropositionThe Harley-Davidson will be a completely new proposition for us here in India. By the looks of it, the X 440 does remind you of the XR 1200 Sportster, so it remains to be seen how exactly does it ride. Moreover, motorcycles in this segment usually are recognized for there thumpy exhaust note. How will the upcoming X 440 sound is something we're really eagerly awaiting to hear as well.
Engine SpecsThe Harley-Davidson X 440 is expected to be powered by a 440cc caapcity single-cylinder engine. It will be an air-cooled unit, as per the pictures here. Motorcycles in the 350-400cc category usually produces between 20-28bhp and 25-27Nm of torque. Will the X 440 offer more power than its competition given that it is powered by a bigger engine, is another fact that is worth the wait.
Premium ToucheThe recent images also showcase the bikes premium fit and finish levels. The switchgears look plush, but whether they feel like when touched as well, remains to be seen. Some of the nice features visible in the X 440 images include premium-looking LED headlights and taillights, the indicators also seem LED unit. As for the instrument cluster, it will be a single-pod unit, and how effective the informations are distributed is another point that needs comparison with its competitiors.
Underpinings and Hardware
The HD X 440 is built around a single-downtube tubular frame chassis with upside front forks and twin-shock rear shock absorbers. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes from Bybre on both ends, with dual-channel ABS as well. USD forks are quite the premium feature among competition, especially where both the RE and Honda have telescopic forks.Price
The Halrey-Davidson X 440 will be an entry-level motorcycle for the marque. It slots at the beginning of their line-up for the Indian market only. The brand expects it to be mass seller, which in the process will also help expand Harley's presence in India. So given the popularity sentiment the X 440 is aiming for, it is expected to be priced between Rs 2-3 lakh (ex-showroom).
