PM Modi US visit: Gina Raimondo, the US Secretary of Commerce, on Tuesday, noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming state visit would allow US and India to enhance focus on commercial and strategic technology partnerships in clean energy, defence, and medical supply chain.
PM Modi is going to the US for a state visit on June 22 at President Joe Biden's invitation. Apart from a state dinner, he will also address a joint meeting of the US Congress, the second time in his tenure as Prime Minister.
PM Modi's visit central focus at USIBC
Raimondo, who was in India earlier this year, said that PM Modi's upcoming visit "will be an opportunity to elevate our focus to commercial and strategic technology partnerships, including in defence, sending medical supply chain, clean energy and space." Her statement was part of a recorded video screened at the annual India Ideas Summit hosted by the US-India Business Council (USIBC), IANS reported.
The visit later this month has definitely generated a lot of buzz.
At the same summit, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the upcoming visit would be "historic".
Buzz before state visit
On Tuesday, US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan, too, called on PM Modi and told him that US President Joe Biden is looking forward to welcoming him.
PM Modi, too, said he is looking forward to a productive visit and an engaging conversation with President Biden on bilateral, regional, and global issues.
A bipartisan duo of senior US Senators also spoke about India ahead of the much-anticipated visit, IANS reported. Senators Mark Warner and John Cornyn, co-chairs of the Senate India Caucus, have expressed disappointment that India "took a pass" on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They said that the country did not take a position behoving a major power.
