Mumbai: Residents in some parts of Mumbai including those from Bhuleshwar and Kalachowki areas have complained of long power supply disruptions in the past few weeks lasting for nearly one to hours. While the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is not clear about the exact reason for the power outages, an official said that these were due to "local faults".
Some parts of Marine Drive and Churchgate faced power cuts late on Tuesday evening. As per a BEST official, 33KV bus section had tripped at Backbay receiving sub-station and said the fault was fixed within 15 minutes and the supply was restored. The "local fault" had not impacted any big area or locality in the city, they added.
The undertaking will look into customer grievances and resolve them, and also carry out site visits to check if the power supply cables are in good condition, the official further said. These checks will also help the undertaking to figure out what could have led to the localised faults.
A electricity consumer told Times of India that during power cuts, the major inconvenience was not getting BEST on the helplines. "The numbers given on the electricity bill are of no use as we were not able to get in touch with any control room official in order to find out what was the reason for the power cut and when it will be restored," he said.
