Delhi food truck policy: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday gave his in-principle approval to Delhi's food truck policy. The move is a step in opening the path for the national capital to have food truck hubs similar to those in cities like New York and Hong Kong. The policy aims to establish Delhi as the country's "food truck capital".
According to PTI, the policy will be implemented with the operation of food trucks in 16 selected locations identified by the Public Works Department. Once the model is successfully implemented, it will be replicated across the city, a statement from the Chief Minister's Office said.

Boost to Delhi night life, employment
CM Kejriwal also took to Twitter to announce the introduction of the food truck policy. He said that the Delhi government is bringing in the policy for economic development and job creation.
The Delhi government intends to support small businesses through this policy, while simultaneously generating employment opportunities and boosting the nighttime economy of the city. PWD Minister Atishi Marlena said that the policy would contribute to the city's nighttime economy.
Policy aims
According to the Delhi Development Commission website, the policy aims to:
  • Generate quality jobs
  • Enable small businesses and start-ups to set up operations, innovate, and compete in the food retailing business.
  • Make arrangements for ease of operating food trucks across the city
  • Provide diverse, creative, and high-quality food options to tourists and locals.
  • Reduce the cost of entry and operations.
The responsibility for the operation and maintenance of these food hubs is entrusted to a designated agency, PTI said, quoting the statement.
Earlier, while presenting the budget for the financial year 2022-23, then Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said that the government was formulating a policy to allow food trucks to serve at selected places in the city from 8 pm to 2 am.
