Kurukshetra: In a big development, farmers in Haryana's Kurukshetra on Tuesday ended their protest after Manohar Lal Khattar-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)agreed to fulfil their demands for minimum support price (MSP) on sunflower seeds. Soon after the government accepted the farmers' demands they began celebrations.
The video of farmers celebrating after the state government's announcement was also shared by news agency ANI. "We are ending our protest. The blocked roads will be opened today. We were protesting so that our crops are purchased at MSP. We will keep fighting for MSP across the country. Our leaders will also be released soon. Cases filed against our leaders will be taken back," said farmer leader Rakesh Tikait
Farmers call off their protest:

The protesting farmers have been assured of the appropriate price for sunflower crop, Kurukshetra’s Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma said as reported by PTI.
Notably, the farmers had blocked the National Highway-44 near Pipli since Monday afternoon after holding a mahapanchayat over the issue. The highway connects Delhi with Chandigarh.
The farmers were demanding a minimum support price of Rs 6,400 per quintal for their produce. On Saturday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday digitally released Rs 29.13 crore as an interim payment to 8,528 sunflower farmers for the crop grown on 36,414 acres. Notably, the amount was released under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana (BBY).
Notably, earlier this year, the state government announced the inclusion of sunflower crops under the BBY scheme. Under this scheme, farmers will be paid a fixed amount if their produce is sold for less than MSP.
Earlier this month also, farmers blocked Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway-44 near Shahabad in Kurukshetra over the same issue.
